1. THE AWARD

1.1 The Canadian Council of Professional Psychology Programs (CCPPP) Award for Excellence in Professional Training (referred to in this document as the award) is awarded every year in which meritorious candidates are nominated.

1. 1. 1. A training award shall be available to a candidate from an academic setting, known as the “Excellence in Academic Training” award

1. 1. 2. A training award shall be available to a candidate from an internship setting, known as the “Excellence in Internship Training” award

1.2 The objective of the awards is to acknowledge the importance of professional training in psychology by recognizing a psychologist for his/her outstanding contributions to the professional training of graduate students/interns.

1.3 Nominations for the award may be made for any psychologist involved in professional training in any of the internship sites or university programs that are members of the CCPPP, except for persons who are current members of the Executive of the CCPPP.

1. 3. 1. If a nomination is sent from a program where there is a current member of the executive, that member of the executive shall recuse her/himself from writing a letter of recommendation and shall not be eligible to participate in deliberations concerning the award (i.e., the awards committee).

1.4 The award shall be administered according to the procedures outlined in this document.

2. AWARDS COMMITTEE

2.1 Administration of the award and the selection of the recipient will be responsibility of the COMMITTEE FOR THE CCPPP AWARD FOR EXCELLENT IN PROFESSIONAL TRAINING (referred to in this document as the awards committee).

2.2 The members of the awards committee shall be:
(a) The past-president of the CCPPP, ex officio, as chair
(b) One of the members-at-large, appointed by self-nomination
(c) The graduate student/intern representative to the CCPPP

2.3 In the event that the position of graduate student/intern representative to the CCPPP is vacant, a second member-at-large shall be appointed to the Awards Committee by self-nomination.

2.4 A secretary shall be elected by and from among the members of the Awards Committee.

2.5 The Awards Committee shall make its selection on the basis of the files submitted to the committee.

2.6 For the benefit of subsequent years' Awards Committees, the chair of the Awards Committee will submit a brief written report on the activities of the Awards Committee. The report will be presented at the Annual General Meeting.

3. SELECTION CRITERIA

3.1 It is intended that the award recognize outstanding contributions to professional training in psychology to graduate students/interns. This includes contributions such as classroom and seminar teaching, practicum and internship supervision, development of textbooks on professional training, administrative mentorship, citizenship within the larger training environment, and development of innovative programs for professional training of graduate students/interns.

3.2 It is not necessary that the recipient of the award excel in more than one area of professional training.

3.3 Only psychologists who are members of internship sites or university programs that are members of the CCPPP are eligible for the award.

4. NOMINATION PROCEDURE

4.1 A nomination for the award may be made by any graduate student(s)/intern(s) in psychology who has received or is currently receiving training from an eligible psychologist, or by any professional faculty member(s) in a CCPPP program.

4.2 Nominations for the award should be made as objectively as possible, and may include relevant evidence to document excellence in professional training. The nomination may also include letters of support from the nominee's peers and/or recommendations of the internship director, professional program director, and/or head of department of the program in which the nominee is employed. The nomination should include information the basis of the experience the nominator has had with the nominee. The submitted nomination should also include opinions of current and former graduate students/interns trained by the nominee. A copy of the nominees CV is desirable, if available, even if not up to date.

5. TARGET DATES

5.1 The Awards Committee should be established following the Annual General Meeting of the CCPPP. Typically, its discussions would begin in October to review procedures and selection criteria in light of preceding years' experience, and to begin inviting nominations (e.g., through listserv announcement; fall newsletter).

5.2 A reminder about the award, including its objective, eligibility criteria, and nomination procedures, shall be included in the annual mailing to member institutions requesting membership dues.

5.3 Nominations are to be submitted to the chair of the Awards Committee by December, prior to the mid-Winter meeting of the Executive. A reminder about the award, including its objective, eligibility criteria, and nomination procedures shall be placed in the Annual CCPPP Directory. The Awards Committee is to complete its deliberations by the time of the mid-Winter Executive meeting.

5.4 The chair of the Awards Committee shall report to the Executive Council of CCPPP the name of the recipient of the award at the mid-Winter Executive meeting. The Executive Council should then proceed to notify the award recipient.

5.5 A public announcement of the recipient of the award shall be made at the Annual General Meeting and in the Spring edition of the CCPPP newsletter
