CCCPPP Responds to CPBAO Public Consultation Request

The recently proposed changes to the regulation of psychology in Ontario have sparked significant discussion about the future of psychology training across the country. While such changes can be disruptive and even divisive, they also present a valuable opportunity for collaboration as we work together toward our shared goal: enhancing the quality and efficiency of professional training while safeguarding both the public and the integrity of our profession.

With this shared goal in mind, the CCPPP has submitted feedback to the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) in response to its request for input on proposed amendments to the Psychology and Applied Behaviour Analysis Act, 2021 and Registration Regulation 193/23, aimed at modernizing registration practices. Our full response is available on our website here.

In summary, we acknowledge the importance of facilitating interprovincial mobility for psychology professionals and expanding public access to psychological services. At the same time, we strongly affirm the need for consistent national standards—best embodied, in our view, by the CPA’s national accreditation standards. Accordingly, we urged the Council to rescind the motion introducing these proposed changes and instead collaborate with other provincial and territorial regulators, accreditors, and the broader psychology training community to develop a unified, high-quality national framework that upholds rigorous training and public protection.

We believe this moment presents a valuable opportunity to make meaningful progress toward these shared goals. In support of this effort, the CCPPP also endorses the recent call for a National Training Summit issued by the Association of Canadian Psychology Regulatory Organizations (ACPRO).
