The Child and Youth Mental Health Ambulatory Services (CYMH-AS) Outpatient Team is an integral part of the Child and Youth Mental Health Programs at McMaster Children's Hospital. This team provides psychiatric consultation, individual and family mental health assessment and treatment, and group treatment to those experiencing complex mental health difficulties (many with comorbidities) and is affiliated with the Faculty of Health Sciences and Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University and the Offord Centre for Child Studies. With approximately 6,000 annual visits and 1,300 referrals, this multidisciplinary team works with partners including pediatricians, family physicians, education, child welfare and other community agencies in the provision of comprehensive and evidence based mental health services to children and youth residing in Hamilton.
Position Summary
Within the CYMH-AS Outpatient Team, our Clinical Psychologists provide direct clinical service involving consultation, assessment and treatment using individual, family and group modalities. Our Psychologists are also active in research and program development activities including leadership in externally funded quality improvement research and implementing quality and outcome indicators within our services. The Psychologist also provides education to and supervision of staff and other learners within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University, and specialized mental health teams, and participates in the development of an ongoing staff in-service program.
Schedule Work Hours
Monday to Friday; days (flexibility in working hours may be required)
Qualifications
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Psychology or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
- Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario
- Expertise in a cognitive behavioural therapy
- Extensive knowledge and current experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of complex anxiety and mood disorders in children and adolescents
- Advanced skills in the development and documentation of specific interventions, in conducting clinical trials and in evaluating service outcomes for children and adolescents with mixed emotional and behavioural problems
- Demonstrated strength in consultation, teaching, teamwork and in the supervision of advanced learners
- Demonstrated expertise in several treatment modalities (eg. family systems therapy, group therapy, individual therapy using several theoretical models)
- Strength in conducting andsupervising psychological testing
- Eligible for part-time appointment with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University
- Ability to successfully compete for grant monies to fund clinical trials
