Center for Healthy Active Living (CHAL)

The CHAL program provides comprehensive, evidence-based treatment for children and youth with complex severe obesity who require sub-specialty medical care. It promotes capacity among community providers caring for this population, fosters collaborative relationships and partnerships that support seamless transitions between health care providers, provides a setting for clinical and epidemiological evaluation and research, and promotes the dissemination of knowledge in the field of pediatric obesity.

At CHAL, the Psychologist will:

  • Conduct psychological/behavioural assessments as part of an interdisciplinary assessment of health and psychosocial wellbeing;
  • Participate in the development of an interdisciplinary treatment plan;
  • Provide individual, family and group therapy; including the treatment of binge eating disorder, body image disturbance, mood and anxiety issues;
  • Collaborate with schools and other mental health providers to ensure patients’ mental health and learning needs are addressed
  • Contribute to ongoing program evaluation and outreach activities.
  • Function as part of an interdisciplinary health-care team working in a child centered family-focused environment where parents and caregivers are seen as partners in care.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
  • PhD in Clinical Psychology from an APA or CPA accredited Clinical Psychology program (Essential)
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Psychologist in Ontario (Essential)
  • Designated practice as a Psychologist in Clinical Psychology with children and adolescents (Essential)
  • Experience in a paediatric health-care setting (Essential)
  • Experience providing services to children and youth with complex medical and mental health conditions (Essential)
  • Training and experience in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance-Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), and Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT) (Preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with other health professionals (Essential)
  • Flexibility in work hours (evening and weekend work may be required) (Essential)
  • Supervision experience (Preferred)
  • Bilingualism (Fluency in both French and English) (Preferred)
