Applications are invited for a faculty member who will serve in the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program in clinical psychology at the University of Prince Edward Island. Prince Edward Island is part of the traditional and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
The PsyD program welcomed its third cohort of students in September 2021, has applied for accreditation by the Canadian Psychological Association, and has been approved for a site visit. The program is infused with a critical lens, promoting methodological pluralism, and the integration of theory, research, and practice across individual and cultural diversities. The Department recognizes the importance of understanding individuals from their cultural, social and community contexts, and thus, is committed to training professionals who can engage helpfully with indigenous peoples and other cultures who have been neglected or suppressed. In line with this commitment, the Department of Psychology welcomed its first Elder in Residence in 2019. The program is also home to the UPEI Psychology Training Clinic which serves as the primary training facility for students in the first two years of the program before students transition to external placements in the community.
Our aim is to graduate future clinical psychologists who are competent to: 1) Address mental health needs of individuals, couples, families, and the larger community, particularly those whose sociodemographic position has created barriers to accessing services. 2) Engage in high quality mental health services, including assessment, diagnosis, intervention, consultation, supervision, and research while modeling ethical decision making in their practice. 3) Respect the culture, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, language, religion, sexuality, physical and psychological characteristics, and identity of individuals they encounter in their clinical practice.
The successful candidate will be appointed to a tenure-stream position at the level of Assistant Professor, joining the growing clinical psychology faculty in the department. The faculty member will work with the clinical and non-clinical faculty members of the Department of Psychology to continue to build and grow the PsyD program. Description of Position: The Clinical Neuropsychology Service (CNS) at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH), McMaster University is pleased to announce a position for 1 neuropsychology postdoctoral fellowship opening for the 2-year 2022-2024 academic cycle. This individual will join our current first year fellow.
Our service provides consultation, assessment and intervention to a wide range of adult inpatient and outpatient populations within the context of an academic healthcare and hospital setting. The fellow will work with adult and geriatric patients with neurological diseases and disorders, complex psychiatric disorders, dementia, and general medical conditions through a number of rotations and through facilitating group intervention programming. Participation in weekly structured rounds and didactics (e.g., Psychiatry Grand Rounds, Mental Health and Addiction Rounds, Joint Geriatric-Neuropsych didactics, and other hospital service clinic rounds) and team-based research is expected.
The SJHH postdoctoral program in Clinical Neuropsychology provides access to multidisciplinary medical education and training opportunities that include didactics and direct patient contact, as well as interactions with other residents in medical specialties and allied health professions. Competence and understanding of ethical standards and professional practice relevant to cultural and individual differences and diversity in the practice of psychology and neuropsychology are emphasized.
Faculty: The program exists within the SJHH Mental Health and Addictions Program and is affiliated with McMaster University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences. Position: A two-year post-doctoral fellowship is available within the Neuropsychology Clinic of the Krembil Brain Institute at University Health Network (UHN).
Training Setting: The Krembil Brain Institute is one of the largest centres in CNS dysfunction in Canada and a teaching hospital of the University of Toronto. The Neuropsychology Clinic includes 4 neuropsychologists, 3 psychometrists, and various trainees at all levels of training. Although our program is not a member of the Association of Postdoctoral Programs in Clinical Neuropsychology (APPCN), it is designed to conform to the Houston Conference training guidelines and follows guidelines for board certification.
Patient Population: The fellow will be affiliated with the Movement Disorders Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) program, which is one of the largest interdisciplinary academic programs of its kind in North America. The first 16 months of the fellowship are focused primarily on clinical neuropsychological assessment working towards autonomous practice with adults and seniors and licensure with the College of Psychologist of Ontario (CPO). As part of a dynamic interprofessional team, the fellow will be involved in clinical neuropsychological assessment and consultation both prior to and after DBS intervention. Supervision is primarily provided by two staff neuropsychologists, with the opportunity to also work with other neuropsychologists in the clinic. For breadth of training, fellows are exposed to a wider array of adult and senior patients with varied referral questions from other neurological and neurosurgical programs within UHN. This may include: Epilepsy, Stroke, Concussion, Memory disorders, Psychiatric disorders, Neuro-oncology.
Didactic Experiences: Fellows are introduced to specific topic areas by clinical and research seminars. Attendance is mandatory for weekly Neuropsychology Rounds and Group Supervision, as well as monthly DBS Surgical Rounds. Fellows may supplement with elective didactics including Epilepsy Research Rounds, Movement Disorders Clinic (MDC) Research Rounds, MDC Faculty Rounds, International Behavioural Neurology Rounds, Joint Neurodegenerative Radiology Rounds, Clinical Neuropathology Lecture Series, Clinicopathology Conference, Krembil Neuroimaging Rounds, Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Surgical Rounds, and Rotman Research Rounds.
Application: The deadline for applications is January 4, 2022. Invited interviews will be conducted virtually in January/February 2022 and offers will be made on February 22, 2022.
