Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Psychologist is a member of the interdisciplinary team. The incumbent will collaborate with other members of the team while providing assessment, diagnosis, consultation, and psychotherapy. The ability to conduct both individual and group treatment is an asset.
The Clinical Psychologist will primarily provide psychological services to patients within the Psychiatric Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit but will also provide consultation, assessment, and treatment, as needed to the Forensic Assessment Correctional Treatment Unit, Transition Bungalow Program, and Community Program. Duties will include conducting comprehensive assessment of violence risk, personality, and cognitive skills in addition to other psychological assessments (e.g., neuropsychological screening), provision of treatment through both individual and group settings. Duties will also include participation in the predoctoral internship program and supervision of practicum students. Participation and testimony before the Criminal Code Review Board of Nova Scotia and expert witness testimony will also be required.

The Operational Stress Injury [OSI] Clinic is part of a larger network of clinics across Canada and is designed to provide specialized mental health services to eligible Veterans, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, the RCMP, and their family members. St. Joseph's Operational Stress Injury Clinic is responsible for service provision across a geographic region including Southwestern Ontario, the Greater Toronto Area and portions of Central Ontario. St. Joseph's OSI Clinic currently has satellite clinics in Toronto and Hamilton with staff working from these sites. While the primary location for this position is at the Parkwood Main site in London, there may be travel to other OSI Clinic sites on occasion, related to training or orientation opportunities. St. Joseph's OSI Clinic has embraced virtual care opportunities as they provide services to patients from across Ontario. To best support staff, we have shifted to a hybrid work model in which staff have the opportunity to work both from home as well as their OSI clinic office. A laptop will be provided.
As a member of this interdisciplinary team, you will be required to apply advanced clinical knowledge in the areas of assessment and treatment of mental, emotional and behavioural disorders for those who are referred to the clinic as a result of traumatic stress injuries. Treatment may involve individual and group approaches. This role necessitates effective communication and collaboration with Veterans Affairs Canada, Department of National Defense, RCMP, family physicians, and other community partners such as Operational Stress Injury Social Support (OSISS) partners. OSI Clinic welcomes candidates currently completing their internship year to apply and is amenable to considering future hire dates.
OSI clinic is able to provide primary and secondary supervision for successful candidates who are in the supervised practice phase of their registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
Essential Qualifications Valid registration as a Psychologist at the doctoral level with the College of Psychologists of Ontario with area of practice in clinical psychology for an adult client population.
Demonstrated experience with and competence in Individual and/or Group Intervention
Demonstrated experience working in a goal oriented, evidence based, and outcome-oriented practice
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively within an interdisciplinary team setting as well as with community partners.
Demonstrated strength in written/verbal communication
Familiarity with outcome measurement related to clinical practice, ability to measure and evaluate practice change outcomes

About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Health Services Manager, and under the clinical direction of the Clinical Lead to ensure the effective provision of empirically supported assessment and treatment services to adults who have crossed legal sexual boundaries. The Forensic Sexual Behaviour Program (FSBP) offers specialized assessment and treatment services to individuals in Nova Scotia whose sexual behavior has crossed legal boundaries. Treatment is currently being offered in four Health Zones across the province (groups located in Kentville, Dartmouth, Truro and Sydney), whereas assessment is primarily centralized in Dartmouth where the coordination of FSBP services for the province is based.
The duties of the clinical psychologist (PhD) include program development activities, research, prevention initiatives, sexual recidivism risk/need assessment, and/or the facilitation of specialized group treatment as well as involvement in team meetings. While court testimony is infrequent, it is a potential aspect of any work conducted at the FSBP.
In addition, duties will also include participation in the predoctoral internship program and supervision of practicum students.
Independence will be both expected and encouraged while ensuring that all services are provided in accordance with CPA & NSBEP ethical standards and practice guidelines for Psychologists, the provincial standards of the FSBP, the principles and practices of NS Health, and relevant legislature.

The Department of Psychology invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2023. Clinical faculty members are expected to provide clinical supervision, have an established or developing child clinical research program in the candidate’s expertise area, and teach graduate and undergraduate courses. Undergraduate courses could include Psychopathology of Childhood, Clinical Psychology, and Abnormal Psychology. The ability to supervise clinical and/or research activities related to the areas of trauma and/or stress, including but not restricted to minority stress and racialized or intergenerational trauma, and support the development of a PsyD program within the department will be considered an asset. Faculty members maintain active research programs involving undergraduate and graduate supervision. The candidate will be expected to actively participate in the ongoing service activities of the Clinical Program Committee, the Department of Psychology, and the broader University community.
For over a century, the Psychology Department has had a presence at Acadia, and today it is a one of the largest academic units on campus (500+ majors, 20-25 honours students, 10-12 graduate students) offering numerous programs at the undergraduate and graduate level. We are distinguished from other institutions for our neuroscience and applied options at the undergraduate level, and at the graduate level we offer a Master’s of Science in Clinical Psychology, with the hopes of expanding to a Doctoral (Psy.D) program. Our Unit was one of the first on campus to form a departmental Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee to act with intention in fostering a climate within and outside of the classroom that is equitable and inclusive to persons from diverse backgrounds.
